About The Olfactory Training Kit
About The Olfactory Training Kit
The Olfactory Training Kit was created by Kyle Salata, PharmD and Jason Jerusik, PharmD, two licensed pharmacists who wanted to make a quality smell training kit accessible to people who need it.
Made at a Licensed Pharmacy
The Olfactory Training Kit is assembled and shipped from Advanced Rx, a licensed pharmacy in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. Advanced Rx is licensed in 48 states across the continental U.S.
About the Oils
The kit contains four 100% pure essential oils: lavender, lemon, clove bud, and eucalyptus. We source our oils from suppliers who provide GC/MS (gas chromatography/mass spectrometry) testing to verify purity and composition. GC/MS testing is the industry-standard analytical method for confirming that an essential oil is what it says it is, without dilution or synthetic additives.

Why These Four Scents
Each oil represents a distinct odor category: floral (lavender), fruity (lemon), aromatic (clove bud), and resinous (eucalyptus). These categories were selected by the original research group (Hummel et al., 2009) to provide broad stimulation across different types of smell receptors. Our scent selection matches the categories used in the published studies.
The Research Behind Smell Training
The kit's protocol is based on published peer-reviewed research on olfactory training, including:
- Hummel et al. (2009), the foundational study establishing the four-scent, twice-daily protocol
- Konstantinidis et al. (2013), a study in post-infectious and post-traumatic olfactory loss
- Damm et al. (2014), a multicenter study on odor concentration and training outcomes
- Addison et al. (2021), an international clinical consensus statement on olfactory training for post-infectious olfactory dysfunction
